Rockanomics.com, a pro-American, pro-military, conservative online rock music journal and community, launches this fall. The site features music reviews and downloads, videos, interviews, conservative news articles, analysis of national events and pop culture issues, trivia, discussions, blogs and a special 9/11 remembrance. While helping expose lesser known up-and-coming music artists, another focus of the site is to raise awareness of the needs of U.S. military personnel and highlight their successes around the world.

“Though we intend for Rockanomics.com to become one of the Web’s leading online portals for conservative news and rock music, we still find it important to help our readers find a fulfilling career path and share in the American dream…”

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) October 8, 2008 — World Anthem Inc. announces the upcoming launch of Rockanomics.com, a conservative news site and rock music community in one. Pro-American and pro-military, Rockanomics.com aims to take on the bands, magazines, newspapers and other media that constantly slam the country and the president. Rockanomics.com will also offer an “ally” program, motivating businesses and individuals to refer subscribers and earn ongoing revenue. The site is scheduled to launch in late 2008.

Rockanomics.com

“One of the main reasons for Rockanomics.com is to raise awareness of the needs of U.S. military personnel and highlight their tremendous successes around the world,” says Rob Stanley, founder of Rockanomics.com. “To show our support, a portion of subscription fees will go to one of several military charities benefiting wounded or disabled veterans and their families.”

Rock music is the primary genre featured on Rockanomics.com, but exceptional pop, contemporary country and hip-hop is also included to attract a broad and diverse fan base. On the music pages, emphasis is given to exposing lesser known up-and-coming artists, while featuring newsworthy events in the mainstream entertainment press. Individuals who subscribe to the site’s mailing list can download free music and are entered in a drawing for an iTunes gift card or an iPod Nano. Visitors can also subscribe to a pre-launch mailing list to stay informed of the exact launch date and get sneak previews of the site before it goes live.

In addition to music reviews and downloads, the site features technology reviews, videos, interviews, articles, analysis of national events and pop culture, trivia, discussions, blogs and a special 9/11 remembrance. Rockanomics.com writers tackle the big news stories, point fingers, name names and offer fact-based analysis of national concerns and their effects on American life.

“With the dawn of a new media committed to providing non-biased reporting, and with intelligent, informed, engaged listeners, the momentum is shifting back to a patriotic ‘America First’ winning attitude, where clear thinking, honest debate and masterful problem solving rule the day. Rockanomics.com is built in this spirit, and strives to drive these ideals home,” Stanley says.

A unique feature to Rockanomics.com is the site’s career and business departments. Individuals looking to advance will find education and career information, business basics and personal finance tips on this section of the Web site.

“Though we intend for Rockanomics.com to become one of the Web’s leading online portals for conservative news and rock music, we still find it important to help our readers find a fulfilling career path and share in the American dream,” Stanley says.

Artist plans to smoke Kurt, Palin replaces him as rock god

danielle | Gossip!, Opinion | Friday, 03 October 2008

Two hilarious pieces in the Guardian which I must share… first - an Australian artist plans to smoke the remains of Kurt Cobain in a hash joint on October 11th. How she got the ashes is a mystery and why this is art is beyond me… On an aside, even though I don’t ‘get it’, I still support the artist’s right to smoke her piece (peace?) and I’d even support art funding for the whole damn thing - put that in yer pipe and smoke it Harper, you big jerkface … I digress.

The second piece is a little more whimsical and calls for some suspension of reality: Why Sarah Palin is totally rock’n'roll, written by Steven Wells.

Let me share a choice quote or two from the piece:

“It took Jesus Christ 33 years to be born in a blaze of media hype, have an entire nation hanging on his every word, and then be crucified in front of a jeering mob. It took Sarah Palin just two incredible weeks, making her not only more rock’n'roll than Jesus, but more rock’n'roll than rock’n'roll itself.

[snip]

Rock’n'roll is dead, rendered redundant by the woman who allegedly called her son Van so that his name would rhyme with Van Halen. That’s how rock’n'roll she is. And that’s how totally un-rock’n'roll she is. Which is totally rock’n'roll.”

Read it, it’s funny. You probably need a laugh these days.

“Led Zeppelin used to feature 20 minute drum solos. That is simply wrong.”

danielle | Gossip!, Opinion | Thursday, 18 September 2008

There’s an interesting opinion piece at the Guardian today about why live gigs should never be more than 45 minutes.

It’s an interesting notion and I tend to agree, except in cases where the band warrants a three hour show. Let’s see who qualifies: U2, The Smiths, The Rolling Stones (except forget them, those old farts tour WAY too often), The Beatles (were the members not dead or practically dead), Led Zeppelin (I guess, for the kids, eh), Bob Marley, Pink Floyd, The Doors, The Police (I guess, for my friends who care), David Bowie, Elliott Smith (gratuitous selection for my selfish self and the five people who care), Velvet Underground, The Kinks, Radiohead and Tiffany. That’s it. OK and maybe the Grateful Dead (never got to see them) and Johnny Cash.

The people’s comments following the article are downright hilarious. I was joking about Tiffany by the way.

Kanye West does Absolut, Charlie Kaufman-style

danielle | Business, Gossip!, Innovation, Marketing, Video | Thursday, 03 July 2008

Okay - it took me a minute, but I get… Kanye and Absolut have joined forces to poke fun at lifestyle marketing, the kind of marketing the music business *believes* it lives or dies on (please note emphasis on *believe*)… Instead of going the aspirational route and portraying a rich, well-dressed Kanye hanging in an elegant club drinking Absolut (the Kanye you wish you could be), their tactic is to skip the vodka cocktails and smalltalk and get to the point - see Kanye, take a pill and be Kanye - straight-up. Fuck inference …

… but wait, aren’t they still trying to peddle Absolut to y’all?

See the supporting site at bekanyenow.com

There’s an idea here but it really smacks of insincerity, don’t you think? Or perhaps it’s terrible execution of a good idea that needs more fleshing out.

Time will tell. In terms of execution, there’s zero social media on the site currently, but you can sign up for a countdown alert via email… looks like something’s going to happen in ten days.

Metallica Album Preview Cover-up?
By blindedbythehype
Fri, 06 Jun 2008 15:38:28 GMT

Yesterday UK bloggers The Quietus posted a preview of the new Metallica album after hearing it at an invite-only session in London. Their coverage — which you can still find here — is a relatively fair piece that discusses the hardship of being a Metallica fan some twenty years after their epic, “…And Justice for All.”

The Quietus contributor “Bob Mulhouse” is circumspect about the album’s prospects, saying, “This album could be good, or it could be mediocre – too much depends on the other four songs to make a call at this point.” Nothing out of the ordinary for a record review after a one-time listen.

It came as something of a surprise then to find that the internet had been expunged of any coverage of the event. We emailed The Quietus editor Luke Turner about what happened. He gave this response:

STOCKHOLM, Sweden - The Kiss Army fan club has an enthusiastic new recruit: Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Rice was in the Swedish capital Thursday for an international conference on Iraq. Kiss had a sold-out concert to play Friday.

“I was thrilled,” Rice said of her late-night encounter with Kiss frontman Gene Simmons and bandmates Paul Stanley, Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer in the executive lounge of the Sheraton Hotel where they signed autographs and handed out backstage passes and T-shirts to her staff.

Prince leaves Radiohead High and Dry

danielle | Business, Gossip!, News | Tuesday, 03 June 2008

Prince, stop being a ridiculous twat.

From billboard.com:

Radiohead To Prince: Unblock ‘Creep’ YouTube Vids
May 30, 2008, 10:20 AM ET

After word spread that Prince covered Radiohead’s “Creep” at the Coachella festival, the tens of thousands who couldn’t be there ran to YouTube for a peek. Everyone was quickly denied — even Radiohead.

All videos of Prince’s unique rendition of Radiohead’s early hit were quickly taken down, leaving only a message that his label, NPG Records, had removed the clips, claiming a copyright violation. But the posted videos were shot by fans and, obviously, the song isn’t Prince’s.

In a recent interview, Thom Yorke said he heard about Prince’s performance from a text message and thought it was “hilarious.” Yorke laughed when his bandmate, guitarist Ed O’Brien, said the blocking had prevented even him from seeing Prince’s version of their song.

“Really? He’s blocked it?” asked Yorke, who figured it was their song to block or not. “Surely we should block it. Hang on a moment.” Yorke added, “Well, tell him to unblock it. It’s our … song.”
