Firing in US military base kills 12, 31 wounded
Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, a US army psychiatrist from Virginia, open fired on his counterparts at the Fort Hood base, Texas on the 5th, killing 12 people and injuring about 31 other army people. According to the authorities, the rampage has been the worst ever mass shooting to have occurred in a US military base.
As informed by Lt. Gen. Bob Cone, Malik Hasan who initially was said of being killed in the firing still survives wounded in the hospital and is in a stable condition under severe military guard. The suspect (Malik Hasan) was shot about four times but however survived having some critical wounds. Hasan open fired with two pistols, one semiautomatic, but neither issued by the military.
Mentioning about the rampage, the US President, Barak Obama called this shooting in the Soldier Readiness Center, “A horrific outburst of violence”. Adding to this line, the commander in chief also said “Its difficult enough when we lose these brave Americans in battles overseas. It’s actually horrifying that they should come under fire at an Army base on American Soil”.
However, there was no official motive behind the shootout in Fort Hood. Well, as for Malik Hasan, he was transferred from Walter Reed Medical Center to Fort Hood in July, due to his poor performance. Moreover, the Republican Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison informed that Hasan was just about to be deployed to Afghanistan.
Retired Col. Terry Lee, who had worked with Hasan, said that he wished that Obama would pull over the American troops from Afghanistan and Iraq. And would often get completely immersed into these conversations and would later end up having arguments with other counterparts.
A former imam in a mosque, Faizul khan said that Hasan has been a lifelong Muslim who was often seen praying in his uniform. He also said that of late, Hasan wanted to get married and was looking for a wife.
Well however, further investigation will be continued about the shootout, while the other military bases in the country have now stepped up all their security checks and precautions to avoid such situations.
