India Pays Tribute On The 1st Anniversary Of Mumbai Attacks
It just feels like it was yesterday, when the prime heritage centers in the city of dreams, Mumbai – The Taj and the Oberoi hotels were caught up in the flames of terrorism. The dreadful scene of people crawling on the floors of the hotels and the roads, trying to escape their death can never be really forgotten.
It was the 26th Nov last year when India, once again was encircled by the frightening anguish of terrorism. But this time, the epicenter was none other than the age old heritage building of the Taj, which has been a legacy of tradition for the country. The terror strike that continued for about 60 hours has been one of the most devastating attacks the country has ever faced in its history that killed nearly about 166 innocent people. The attack was like a nail being nailed into the heart of the country, and the pain, that will only be felt in the deepest thoughts of people.
Today as the country faces the 1st anniversary of the attack, people throughout paid their tribute to all those who are no more with us. People did go to their work, schools and colleges, but everyone made sure that they paused on their ways in the honor and memory of all the people killed in the attack.
The Maharashtra Counter terror unit, Quick response Teams and Force one, all participated together in the parade in the honor of the soldiers and the people who lost their life to the attack. The parade that began from the Nariman Point, another attack point of the terrorists from Lashkar-e-Toiba marched towards the CST and the Trident hotel, all attack centers made by the terrorists. Even the chief minister Ashok Chavan and Chhagan Bhujbal, the deputy chief minister of the state, were present in the event. The parade finally ended in South Mumbai, at Girguam-Chowpatty.
During the parade, people shouted in their most fierce pitch, slogans “Hang Kasab” – the sole terrorist caught alive in the attack and is still under trial in the Indian court of law. Although, the only question that could be seen in the eyes of people, was “When will terrorism end and our life be safe?”
