Paradise lost: Floods ravage tourist hot spot Lake District

On Friday a strong flood swamped the picturesque Lake District of northern England after a heavy rainfall in the country. Military helicopters saved many people by winching them to safe place. The emergency workers also help and save many people those who were trap in this strong and dreadful flood. Even one emergency rescue worker also died as the bridge on which he was standing and rescuing people, swept away by the strong and dreadful surging waters. The emergency worker has tried very much to save himself from the surging waters but became helpless.

The British soldiers are conducting house to house searching to as deep as 8 feet to find the people those who are trapped in this dreadful flood. The air force helicopters are dropping down the troops on the roof tops of the houses to pluck and take them to safety place.

The emergency services said that more than 200 people have been rescued from the strong and dreadful storm in Cockermouth, the hardest hit town of England. In the northern region of Cumbria, police said that due to unprecedented rain for one full day, minimum 960 homes have been flooded.

Heavy storm and rain in the country also flooded Ireland. Water about more than 3 feet also shuts down the city cork, the second largest city situated at the centre of the country. Even more than dozens of towns and villages are affected very much from this heavy storm and flood. A market town Cockermouth, which is situated 330 miles away from the northwest of London and is lying at the junction of Derwent and Cocker rivers, is a very well known and famous place as it is the birthplace of William Wordsworth, a great poet.

On Friday the rain stopped and the rescuer get chance to reach the trapped people in their boat and helicopters to save them from the flood.

According to environment agency, the rainfall was recorded 12.3 inches in 24 hours. This was the most unprecedented rainfall and one of the wettest days till now in England.
