Haiti Earthquake – Worst Disaster Ever Says UN
According to the news from Geneva, a spokeswoman says that the earthquake in Haiti is the worst world disaster ever confronted by UN, also pointing out at that the catastrophe has left affected regions with very little infrastructure.
Also the Elisabeth Byrs, the spokeswoman of the UN office for the coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Geneva said that it is a historic disaster. And they have never faced with such a disaster in United Nation memory. It is like no another. She also said that in the town of Leagane, which is the west of the capital, 80 to 90 percent of buildings were destroyed and damaged, with this not a single local government infrastructure has remained.
The local police said that around 5000 to 10000 people have been killed and most of the bodies are still in the collapsed building structures. It is bringing fears of a huge 7.0 magnitude earthquake.
Also thousands of criminals were out, being escaped from the collapsed hail of the city and there were also widespread reports of robberies as well. Leon Meleste said that all the people are left on their own and the danger is increasing a lot as the police doesn’t exist and people are doing anything they feel.
And a vanguard of 10,000 US troops were arranged to Haiti to have control of the airport, which was blocked with tones of relief supplies and begun with the first distribution of aid to suppress the threat of violence. Some aid was also being distributed from the nuclear-powered carrier USS Carl Vinson, where about 19 helicopters have been carrying out limited aid drops.
The Haitian government is also operating out of a police station at the airport to assists the help, where Mr Preval is looking out totally bushed with the dark pockets under his eyes and also the government has lost its capacity to function correctly, but it still has not collapsed.
