These highly armed sea gangs, mostly from the lawless Horn of Africa have intimidated all the huge shipping lanes located on the Indian Ocean as well as the Strategic Gulf of Aden. It is this route that actually links the two huge continents, Europe and Asia across the Red Sea. These pirate gangs have made more than millions of dollars from their loots and ransoms. However, a deployment troop by the foreign navies was only successful in driving away the gangs further from the shores. This only restricted the pirates from looting people on the sea, far away from the shores.

This business of the pirates is more like a lucrative business and has successfully managed to lure financiers from several places in Somalia and other countries. And with this type of aid, they have set their own system to manage their ransom investments. Mohammed, a rich and former pirate took a handful of journalists to experience their new facility. He also said that the new system of investments has been proved as one of the most vital way for all pirates to easily win over the support of the local community to further move on with their operations. However, there are certain risk factors involved in the process.

In an interview with the journalists, Mohammed said, “Four months ago, during the monsoons, we decided to set up this stock exchange. We started with 15 ‘maritime companies’ and now we are hosting 72. Ten of them have so far been successful at hijacking.”
